A Lifetime of Excellence

Similar to lifetime achievement awards in the entertainment industry, we believe it is important to single out and recognize individuals within Danaher who have made standout contributions throughout their careers. Nominees for the Danaher Innovation Recognition Lifetime Achievement Award are recognized as champions and role models for excellence both within Danaher—and in the broader professional community. Recently, four individuals received this esteemed award. As you’ll learn, these individuals’ achievements span decades and have enabled significant market success over a sustained period of time. Let’s meet them!

Architecting growth with innovative systems, programs, and processes

In 1984, when Craig joined Tektronix (acquired by Danaher in 2007) as a Design Engineer, he had no way of knowing he’d hold the title of Corporate Vice President 35+ years later. It’s been quite a ride. A highly versatile executive leader, Craig has been at the helm of numerous strategic, high-impact Danaher-wide initiatives that have yielded tremendous results. These include developing and deploying the Danaher Reliability System, building the New Product Development (NPD) program (the first suite of tools focused on NPD Project On-Time Delivery), and architecting an end-to-end innovation process to drive OpCo core growth. Known for ‘always wearing the Danaher hat,’ Craig is a trusted advisor and coach to countless leaders across the organization who value his expert guidance. Perhaps summing it up best, Tom Joyce (who, by the way, often refers to Craig as the Father of the NPD Equation) calls Craig “a treasured colleague who has had an immeasurable impact on innovation at Danaher.” Congratulations, Craig!

Revolutionizing the molecular diagnostics industry to help patients

With more than 55 patents to his name, Russ Higuchi—Distinguished Fellow, Cepheid—has made substantial contributions to science and molecular diagnostics over the past 20+ years. Recognized for his integrity and strong work ethic, Russ joined Cepheid in 2008. Prior to Cepheid, Russ revolutionized molecular diagnostics with the invention of real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR)—a molecular diagnostic testing technique used to measure gene expression. With real-time PCR, Russ enabled a technique that was once limited to highly complex labs to be done anywhere, anytime, at any scale. In his 10+ years at Cepheid, Russ has contributed to multiple diagnostic assays for infectious disease and oncology, which have simultaneously helped patients and helped fuel Cepheid’s significant growth. Core technology developed by Russ is used in all Cepheid products. With 30,000+ citations of his extensive body of published work, Russ was born with the innovator gene, and we are extremely fortunate to have him on our team. Congratulations, Russ!

Continuously innovating in ink development and leading teams to excel

In her 25+ years with Videojet—she started as a Research Chemist in 1984—Lin has helped develop well over 100 inks. Known for being highly personable and treating her team like family, Lin was named Director of Ink Development in 2007, leading a team that develops new products and supports Videojet’s ink business. In 2016, Videojet’s Linx Printing Technologies line was added to her plate. An inventor on 27 granted or pending patent families, Lin has developed numerous trade secrets that are used extensively to protect Videojet products and processes. Lin’s products and inventions include inks for sticking to wet beverage bottles; inks that adhere to rough plastics; inks for decoration printing on personal care products; and inks for printing on wire, cables, and electronics. Ganesh Ramaswamy, VP & GE, Marking and Coding remarks: “We could not have launched our continuous ink jet platforms over the past 10+ years without the ink families, reliability testing, and system problem solving Lin has done. She truly demonstrates the humility and results we expect from Danaher leaders.” Congratulations, Lin!

World-class scientist and mentor makes an enormous impact over 30 years

The first-ever Distinguished Fellow at Pall Corporation, Richard joined the OpCo in 1988. Fast forward 31 years, Richard is now recognized for the development of most of the products now sold in Pall Life Sciences’ core businesses. Prior to becoming a Distinguished Fellow, Richard was Senior Vice President, Life Sciences R&D, responsible for Biopharm, Laboratory, Medical, and Food and Beverage business unit NPD outputs. Always a high-achiever, Richard obtained degrees in Natural Sciences and Chemical Engineering from Cambridge University and holds multiple U.S. granted patents in the areas of filter design and biologics filtration. Passionate about giving back to the Pall community, Richard is credited with driving the New to Career Pall R&D Leadership Program (RDLP). Comments from colleagues make it clear that Richard is not only a world-class scientist and leader, but he has a talent for helping individuals find work-life balance, bringing calm and perspective to every situation, and above all perhaps, living the motto: do what it takes. Congratulations, Richard!

There is certainly no shortage of talent within Danaher, and these four outstanding and inspiring individuals are role models to us all, living the Danaher Core Value: Innovation Defines Our Future. Again, congratulations to all!
